Helen Bomford had, like so many of us, a large quilt which she started long ago but which still, after too many years, remained unfinished. In Helen’s case the birth of grandchildren was the happy reason for this , she was year after year creating colourful quilts for new arrivals which meant her complex pink hexagonal quilt never reached completion.
After her untimely death, Lewes Evening Group, who miss her very much, asked Helen’s family if they would like us to finish the quilt, and they happily agreed. All our members contributed to finishing Helen’s quilt, which was handed over to the family around Christmas. This was an emotional and touching event, and showed how valued Helen’s work was by the family, being representative of Helen herself and also of her essential creative skills.
