Patchwork design - 'Spring'

Arthur Ridley's  talk on 7th November

What an accomplished man - entrenched in talent, brimming with enthusiasm, a gifted speaker.  I'd like to have just a slice of what ever it is he's got.  Can't wait to do a workshop with him!

“I signed up for this workshop hoping to reduce my stash, and did manage to use up a lot of the leftovers from my newest bedspread.  Three options derived from a basic nine-patch were offered – Patience Corner (but I’d just done that with the South Coast Evening Group), Star Light Star Bright (my new bedspread was stars and I was a bit bored with them) and Woven Throw, which I chose –  then I was a little disappointed that I actually worked out how it was done before the workshop!  However, it ended up being a really good day.  Yes, I thought I knew all the answers – but Carolyn went way beyond the designs she’d highlighted, gave us lots of tips that helped in general, and was ready to assist where wanted but not intervene as we worked things out for ourselves.  I particularly liked the way she ended the workshop – taking us around to see each other’s work and noting what we had all done with similar starting points.  It really was a workshop that would have suited everyone from raw beginners to know-it-alls like myself! And I’ve finished the quilt.” Kathryn

PAT DEACON WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY 25th MAY

“It was a really great workshop and Pat is an excellent tutor – her previous life as a teacher shows and it is a real asset.  Instructions were clear, guidance excellent, and the learning project was just the right size – most of us either completed it or got very close. Great fun and an interesting technique to use in the future.” Kathryn Greig

Maggie Gill wrote "I didn't have a light box but must definitely make one as I now know how invaluable it would be.  I thoroughly enjoyed today's workshop and have definitely learnt and new skill which I will be putting into practice even after I have completed today's work.  Pat made everything very clear which even I could understand and nothing was too much trouble for her.  An excellent day all round".

The workshop was brilliant!  It is only the second workshop where I have actually managed tofinish the work - well piecing it anyway.  The techniques were easy to learn (and remember) and, once I got used to it, easy to machine.  It provides an alternative method for piecing curves and circles without having to use lots of pins or bond-a-web/heat'n'bond.  It also reduces bulk.  The curves and circles that can be sewn can be smaller or tighter curves than those used with the Ricky Tims' caveman method.  There is an easy method to insert and sew very acute angles into a quilt top that is very secure. Workshop was most enjoyable Pat Deacon was an excellent teacher and learnt a lot. Miriam Bennett

We had a lovely day with Pat Deacon. We all came away with a project either completed or very close to being finished and a head full of hints and tips. Pat was a great tutor easy to follow and ready to help throughout the day. Next time we book Pat for a workshop, don't miss out book early! Christa.
